FOUNDATION

Attracted to the lumber opportunities in the area, Joseph and Betty Kettlestrings arrived from England in 1835 in what would become Oak Park - where they soon transformed their small frame house into a tavern, charging 50 cents for dinner, a bed, and breakfast. The Kettlestrings sold parcels of large land holdings to those who followed the first train to run West of Chicago. This railroad was later renamed “Oak Park,” which originated from the area’s original name of “Oak Ridge.” Today, Oak Park leans into its rich heritage and carries the distinction of an “All-American City.” At 100 Forest Place, we embody the Kettlestrings’ adoration for Oak Park in our community ethos. We find our inspiration in the charms of our city, the innovative spirit of the Kettlestrings, and a familial sense of connection to our past and our residents.
